Traditional Wax-Art Encaustic

Size: Original size is A6 (Postcard size)
Colors:Stockmar Hobbyline colored beewax
Tools: lithe small iron + kitchenknive
Time: took me about 90 minutes to finish
Paper: Special laquered paper card thick quality

Encaustic is a special wax-art technique. I melt colored waxblocks and apply the molten and hot allmost liquid wax onto a special sealed paper card by using a small lithe iron.

While ironing, the colors blend and create totally new shades and tones. With the sole, the tip or the rim of the hot iron I’m able to create all kinds of different patterns and designs.

With enough experience one may even iron fine details such as plants, buildings, animals... onto the card. By scraping away hardened wax later on, white outlines can be created and other highlights.
