Conch within a Coralbank

Description

Though I had no specific topic in mind while ironing this pic, my sis said: "Hey that looks like a conch, a snail shell laying under water on a coral bank ! " Hence the name was born. But you may see and find whatever you want to imagine while looking at this picture ;)

I created this wax-pic by using the ecaustic technique within less than 25 minutes.
It's original size is just that of an average postcard. For more brightness I did enhance the colors + contrast of the picture a bit after scanning.

In 2003 I've gotten my first Encaustic-Set (iron + wax-blocks + a small manual) as birthday present from a dear friend who had bought it for me in London. At that time I did not even know such an special wax-art technique existed at all.... The manual that went with the set and the instruction lessons of my friend were both very helpful and then everything else is and was based mostly on learning by doing.

Some cool techniques I learned about from other artists who posted them in an encaustic forum here www.encaustic.com

The size of the iron at least at the moment is limiting the size of the picture I'm able to create (at least until I've gotten more experienced). Last year I bought myself a bigger iron and so now I am able to create some bigger more detailed A5 or A4 size pictures ;)
